Oil Free Vegan Corn Grits Kolkatte (a traditional manglorean dish)

Ingredients:-

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2-3 tbsp Channa dhal
  • 1 tsp spilt urad dal
  • 3-4 sprigs Curry leaves
  • Green chilies according to your preference
  • 4-5 cups of corn grits (I usually get it from the Indian store)
  • 2-3 carrots – shredded
  • 1/4 cup of shredded coconut (optional)
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Turmeric powder
  • Hot water

Process:-

  • Dry roast the mustard seeds, channa dal, urad dal, curry leaves
  • Then add corn grits dry roast for 4-5 mins
  • After the flame has been switched off add Coconut, carrots, cilantro, turmeric powder, salt to taste.
  • Give all the ingredients a good mix
  • Add hot water slowly and keep stirring till it binds together.
  • Bind into oval shaped or round balls and steam it for about 20-25 minutes

Enjoy with any kind of chutney (today I served it with walnut chutney) but goes best with coconut chutney.
