Oil Free Vegan Cracked Jowar (Sorghum) Upma

Ingredients:-

  • 2 cups of cracked jowar (Sorghum)
  • 1 large onion – finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp of finely chopped ginger
  • 2 carrots – grated
  • 1-2 cups of green peas
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp spilt urad dal
  • 1 tbsp channa dal
  • 1 sprig of curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 3-4 tbsp of lemon juice
  • Green chillies according to preference
  • Salt to taste
  • 6-7 glasses of water
  • Cilantro

Process:-

  • Dry roast jowar till you get a nice aroma (about 5 mins)
  • In a separate pot start boiling the water
  • In a pan start with the dry tempering of mustard seeds, spilt urad dal, curry leaves, channa dal
  • Then add chopped onion, green chillies, ginger – saute for about 4-5 mins
  • Then add grated carrots, green peas, turmeric, water, salt
  • Cook for almost 20-30 mins till the jowar cooks up
  • Add at the end add chopped cilantro and lemon juice.

Serve with dry roasted channa dal or peanuts.
