Ingredients:-
- 2 cups of washed skinless masoor dal (pressure cook with water)
- 3-4 stalks of celery
- 2 small red onions
- 5-7 cloves of garlic
- 3-4 cups of raw fresh cranberry (frozen can be used also)
- 1 tbsp garam masala
- 1 tbsp kitchen king masala (available at the Indian grocery store)
- 1 tsp turmeric
- Chilli powder to your preference
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp cumin seeds
- Cilantro for garnish
Process:-
- Wash the masoor dal and pressure cook
- In a pan dry roast cumin seeds
- Next add chopped onions and finely chopped garlic – sauté it for 4-5 mins
- Then add chopped celery and cranberry – sauté for another 4-5 mins
- Add all the spices, cooked dal and water to your preferred consistency and let it simmer for 5-8 mins
- Usually the dal thickens once it cools down hence I usually add additional water while it is simmering
- At the end garnish with finely chopped cilantro
Enjoy this dal with brown rice, quinoa, barley, roti or as is with some soy yogurt.
